Cycle or drive down the A59/A56 (caution busy roads) to Thornton-in-Craven. Alternatively, there is a bus service.

Route points

Exit the layby at the Church of St Mary the Virgin and turn right into Church Road/B6252 heading south west: Caution: After 300m take the first road on the right and stay on this for 1km until you reach the Leeds & Liverpool Canal.

Turn right onto the canal towpath signposted Barnoldswick/Colne. Do not double back under the road but carry on the canal heading in an easterly direction. Stay on the canal towpath for 2.5 km.

Cycle under the A59 and carry on for 700m until the next bridge. Leave the canal and head onto a track, which is the Pennine Way. Carry on this for 0.5km, until you cross a small river where the Pennine Way then leaves the track. Don’t follow the footpath, stay on the track for 1km until you reach and ride over the canal again and into Bank Newton village.

At the cross roads in the village turn left and follow undulating Gledstone Road for 7.5km. It curves back in a southerly direction at a signposted T-junction towards West Marton.

In West Marton take care crossing the A59 road, going straight over on Gledstone Road towards Thornton-in-Craven.

Carry on this road and go back over the Leeds & Liverpool Canal where you re-join the start of the ride. When you get to a T-junction, turn left onto Church Street and back to the car park.
